Working through a partner agency, we designed a retail investing app concept for FAB Securities, the brokerage arm of First Abu Dhabi Bank. The idea is simple: every buy carries a reason, and that reason comes back on the day you feel like panic-selling. The concept didn't stay in a design file; we built it into a working prototype. It is not a released FAB product.

Stance

An investing app that doesn't shout

Every investing app we studied shouted. We designed the opposite. Losses show in a quiet coral rather than a red alarm, and gains in sage green. The top of Home is a lake at night seen from above, drawn in FAB navy. The portfolio line lies on the water like moonlight, and every so often a slow wave bends it.

Allocation

The whole portfolio on one map

Each heatmap tile is sized by its share of the portfolio and coloured by today's move. Below it sit the UAE/US split and an industry breakdown. A short AI-written "calm read" line sums up the picture in a few words.

Markets and stock detail

From market to position

Markets brings search, tabs and small price charts into one view. On stock detail the chart can be scrubbed with a finger, with ranges from 1D to All. Below the position figures sits the "Your thesis" card, where the reason written at purchase is kept with its timeline.

Trade flow

Every buy has a reason

This is the heart of the concept. The reason can be drafted by AI or written by the user, and the order won't go through without it. On review, the reason travels with the order, which is placed with a swipe. Once confirmed, it's saved to the position and comes back when you think about selling.

Plan

Investing towards a goal

The "First car" goal is tracked with progress that fills like liquid. A "What if I invested more?" slider changes the monthly amount, and the screen says plainly that the projection is not a prediction. Plan shows net worth across investments and cash, checks such as cash buffer and concentration, and the next best step.

Interface and prototype

A concept that actually runs

The app opens in dark mode, and the light theme keeps the same layout in soft cloud tones. The floating dock and hero surfaces bend what's behind them like liquid glass. What started as a design file became a working prototype built with Vite, React 19 and TypeScript. All portfolio data is fictional.

This is concept work prepared for FAB Securities. It is not a released product, the data shown is fictional, and it does not give investment advice.
